ABOUT THE VENUE – The Raven Inn

“Generations of customers had enjoyed this iconic Glazebury pub until it was shockingly run down for demolition and development. Following a four-year campaign to ‘Save the Raven’, we re-opened in the summer of 2023, enjoying great local support. The journey to protect this historic building was more enlightening than we could have imagined: we discovered the building was once a Tudor watermill, becoming an inn by the middle of the C16th to host the local Yeomanry, traders and farm labourers. A hundred years later, the Raven was frequented by the Parliamentarians and the notorious ‘Colonel’ Captain Blood, who schemed and stole the Crown Jewels. By the C19th the now-enlarged Georgian hostelry doubled as the Coroners’ Court, investigating suspicious deaths and fatal accidents, including the severing in half of a young farm hand just outside the Raven’s front door. The fascinating story will unfold at the event with a short show-and-tell of the vernacular architecture and a handful of little secrets hidden in plain view….
